PUAEME007 - Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury
The unit PUAEME007 Provide Emergency Care for Suspected Spinal Injury – equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and provide emergency care for a person with a suspected spinal injury. This unit is ideal for emergency responders, healthcare providers, and individuals working in environments where spinal injuries are a risk, such as sports fields, construction sites, or water-based activities.
The course covers the knowledge and skills needed to minimise further harm to a casualty, whether conscious or unconscious, while providing first aid and awaiting emergency medical services in both workplace and community settings.
Participants will learn to recognise and manage suspected spinal injuries, immobilise the cervical spine using manual in-line stabilisation (MILS) and spinal equipment, evaluate when a casualty can or cannot be moved, prepare a casualty for safe transport, monitor them during transfer, and perform a structured handover to emergency services.
